Why do you run? Simply to keep fit and healthy. Which I now am. Blood pressure and cholesterol all under control (Yippee)
What's your favourite running route? Living in Caversham I love to run along the river between Reading Sonning and Henley.
Do you take part in races? Yes – I like to run half marathons and marathons but usually somewhere nice as I think if you train hard you deserve a break so I like to go away for a nice weekend and run the race, where ever it is.
What's your greatest running achievement? First marathon in New York and then quickest marathon on Long Island (USA)
How long have you been at Benson Striders and how has it helped you and your running? It’s all Del Bateman’s fault. We run together in Caversham on Tuesday’s and in Benson on Saturday’s. It was his idea and it has turned out to be a great decision. It’s great to have met new people and become friends with them. Running in a group has been a new experience and I have become more understanding to other people’s needs and it has helped me as a runner.
Do you use any apps to record your running and if so which ones? No just and old fashioned Garmin watch. Press start – press stop- wow have I just ran that far?
What advice would you give to someone new to running or the club? Have your “Gait” monitored and buy the right shoes for your feet. Try them on at the shop and then leave. Order them on the internet at half the price (Wear last year’s model of shoe – who’s going to know?) Start slowly – run at your own pace and them use the clubs more experienced runners to help you develop.
What's your favourite motivational motto? Stop making excuses and just do it!!
